Hello, Metal Gear types!

I’m looking for fans to participate in casual interviews about the male erotic objectification in the Metal Gear series, its depictions of masculinity and your own interpretations of the characters of Raiden (predominantly), Big Boss, Colonel Volgin and Vamp.

My main questions are…
» How is masculinity approached in Metal Gear?
» Are the men of Metal Gear objectified?
» How is Raiden depicted as a man?

This has a bend towards the homosex and ‘alternative’ masculinity, so please bear this in mind!

After finally finishing Rising, I have to say, if you had asked me eight, seven years ago if I’d play a game with Raiden as a lead character again, I would have laughed loudly in your face, thrown my arms up and gone to bathe my soul after MGS2 European Extreme and lift some more weights.

It’s weird. He’s grown on me like no other character in gaming. I could say something sentimental like, “I’ve grown up alongside this guy” or “I know how being a survivor impacts upon your life and how hard it is to cope”, and feel like a total doof for it, but it’s true.

And they say video games don’t touch people!

then there’s the whole manipulated and monitored for all of his life, emotionally abused by his spouse in the name of safety, told his child was miscarried, struggles with PTSD and depression, tendency towards alcohol abuse, unwillingly being made into a cyborg and essentially tortured, blowing open the conspiracy and THEN being told his son’s alive and his wife is alright (??), then trying to lead a normal civilian life and failing part. …s.

To put it shortly.

Guy’s seen some shit.

At least he has a sense of humour! … most of the time.
